History Of University Of Ibadan Nigeria: university of ibadan formally known as university college of ibadan founded in 1948. The old site was located at eleyele and later moved to new site covered over 2,550 acres of land.
The foundation of the University could be followed specifically to the reports in 1945 of the Asquith and Elliot Commissions which were set up by the British Government in 1943.
Gear was exchanged to the college from its sub-college status precursors, the Yaba Higher College, (built up in 1932 yet formally opened in 1934), and the Yaba Medicinal School (set up in 1930). There were 104 establishment understudies (counting 49 understudies in educator preparing and review courses) who started their courses at Ibadan on 18 January 1948. The formal opening took place on 25 March, 1948.
In February 1948, London University permitted Ibadan its uncommon relationship plan. Arthur Creech Jones, then Secretary of State for the Settlements, and a compelling individual from Elliot Commission, cut the first grass at the perpetual site of the University College on 17 November, 1948, which from that point turned into the Foundation Day.
