History Of University Of Benin:
According to the history, the University of Benin was established in 1970.
It began as an Institute of Technology and was agreed the status of an undeniable College by the Nigeria "National
Colleges Commission" (NUC) on the first of July in the 1971.
This agreement was done by the senator, in his Budget discourse in April 1972, the then Military Legislative head of Mid-Western State, Col. S. O. Ogbemudia formally declared the change of the name of the Institute of Innovation from an Institute to the University of Benin On the first of April 1975, the University at the solicitation of the State government, was assumed control by the Federal Government and turned into a Federal University of the government republic of Nigeria.
Today, the University has kept on developing from quality to quality with enormous number of Faculties, Offices, Institutes and Units.Following NUC's mandates, the College tried different things with the University System in 1991/92 and 1992/93.
In spite of the fact that in the light of new advancements, the University of Benin has returned to the Faculty System with the exception of the accompanying: Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Basic Medical Sciences, Institute of Child Health, which returned to the University System in August, 1999, with a Executive as its managerial head. Instruction, Engineering, Law, Life Science,
Drug store, Physical Science, Social Science, College of Medical Sciences (which has three Schools: Basic Medical Sciences; Dentistry and Medicine; and the Organization of Child Health).
